Russian Forces Strike Hospital Trauma Department in Kramatorsk With Two Drones in Deliberate Attack

BLUFDestroying trauma-surgery capacity near active front lines raises casualty mortality risk for Ukrainian forces and builds the evidentiary record for deliberate targeting of protected medical facilities.

Russian forces struck the trauma department building at a hospital in Kramatorsk with two strike drones on August 29, according to Kramatorsk City Military Administration chief Oleksandr Honcharenko 12. Ukrainian outlets OstroV, LB.ua and Bukvy, along with the Kramatorsk City Council, corroborated the two-drone strike on the hospital 234. Honcharenko stated the strike hit the hospital's trauma department specifically and said he did not believe it could have been accidental, characterizing it as a deliberate strike on civilian medical infrastructure 12. He said hospital staff continued treating patients after the strike 12.

Analysis
The strike strips trauma-surgery capacity from a hospital treating casualties from front-line fighting near a city Russian forces have also targeted alongside nearby Sloviansk within the same 24 hours, and staff continuing to treat patients amid the damage points to improvisation rather than intact facilities, raising transport times and mortality risk for arriving casualties. Honcharenko's public rejection of an accidental explanation signals Ukrainian officials intend to press a deliberate-targeting narrative for war-crimes documentation, though sourcing weight rests on his single official statement, restated rather than independently corroborated by four secondary outlets alongside one primary channel. Russian forces routinely claim such strikes hit military assets collocated with medical facilities, an explanation the specificity of a two-drone strike isolated to the trauma department makes hard to sustain.
